Russian cuisine is a very capacious concept. There is an old traditional Russian cuisine with pancakes, pies and kissel (jelly). And there is Russian cuisine which took shape much later. In this sense, dumplings, olivier (Russian salad) and beef Stroganoff are Russian meals too. We have compiled a selection of restaurants in which anyone will be able to get acquainted with all facets of Russian national cuisine.

The design of the restaurant is based on the style of a Russian dacha. Many bright and pastel tones— sand, lilac, turquoise – are used in the interior. Porcelain painted with traditional floral designs and walls decorated with frescoes with images of berries and fruits will certainly draw your attention. Decorative woodpile is placed at the entrance and it brings associations with a warm and rustic home. Guests are accommodated in four halls. The menu consists of traditional Russian dishes cooked according to old recipes from various regions of Russia (from Siberia to Rostov and Arkhangelsk regions), a variety of homemade berry juices and interesting wine list.

Dom

Dom restaurant is settled in an old mansion that once belonged to the Russian poet and Decembrist Kondraty Ryleev. The owners managed to keep the spirit of noble living and rich dinner parties. Carefully restored, the floor plan layout, typical of noble residences of the city, set the pace in the design of the rooms. The dining area, lit up by a row of high windows, arose in thee enfilade in the left wing. It is completed by the fireplace. Intimate and relaxing atmosphere of the hall is best suited for an intimate meeting of close friends.

Restaurant guests can enjoy an incredible gastronomic trip from tart rassolnik and fish soup made of valuable breeds of fish to venison and tender rack of lamb. The combination of top service, gourmet Russian cuisine and noble interior create an image of a generous and hospitable home (which is a Russian meaning of the word “Dom”).

The future visitors of Stroganoff Steak House will be interested to know that the steaks in the restaurant are served in accordance with contemporary technologies – the meat is kept in a vacuum for three or four weeks to give it special flavor and taste. As for the interior design, “natural” is the key word – guests will be surrounded by wood, leather and textiles. Wooden tables are well illuminated, comfortable and simple in a good sense. The restaurant interior contains a lot of vintage things: old clock with pendulum, vintage photographs, authentic kerosene lamp and an antique cash register.

The Repa

The Repa

The windows of The Repa restaurant overlook at the New stage of the Mariinsky theatre. As for the interior, various scenes from the world famous ballets were transferred to the walls of this Russian cuisine restaurant by students of the Mukhina school which is a famous art academy in Saint-Petersburg. The idea of the project belongs to the famous St. Petersburg designer Alena Akhmadullina, who managed to combine Slavic traditional patterns with modern European décor in the interiors of the restaurant.

The gastronomic keynote of the restaurant is a culinary principle of “real mile”, which emphasizes the product and its origin. The Repa chefs carefully choose products from manufacturers, households, and farms from all over the entire territory of Russia and countries of the Customs Union. All menu items are created using authentic and seasonal ingredients which makes them truly unique.
